Quick answer: we found two places with men’s formal shoes in UK 16. Walktall lists its own Lisbon, Camden and Carnaby Gibson-style shoes, Greenwich brogue-style shoe and Faro slip-on, plus a Jomos Ergo Com wide formal shoe and POD office shoes, with a limited number of pairs of its own styles when we checked. Poyter makes Oxfords, Derbys, brogues, monks and loafers to order in 16, and in 16.5 on fewer styles. DB Wider Fit Shoes lists 16 in its Formal Shoes category, but the shoes there were casual. DB Wider Fit Shoes’ Formal Shoes category runs to 16. At 16 it listed the Norton, Donald, Patrick and Derek casual shoes, the Douglas ankle boot and the Orion and Kevin trainer-style shoes when we checked, all casual styles despite the heading. Shops that stop at 15

Jacamo’s and JD Williams’ smart shoes, Barker, Base London’s Woburn XL and ECCO’s EU 50 all end at 15, and Samuel Windsor ends at 14. Our size 15 formal shoes guide compares them.

How to measure your feet for size 16 formal shoes

Few formal shoe charts reach 16. Poyter’s chart, which ends at 16, gives 318.3 mm, but it runs about one size behind most UK charts. Jacamo’s and JD Williams’ charts end at 15, at 323 mm, and Walktall’s table gives sizes only. If your foot measures more than 323 mm, send your measurements to the shop before you order.

1. Stand on paper against a wall in the socks you wear with formal shoes, with your weight on both feet.
2. Mark the longest toe of each foot.
3. Measure both feet in millimetres and note the longer one.
4. Note the girth round the ball of your foot too, and give both figures to the shop if you ask about fit.

Width fittings at size 16

Walktall’s size 16 formal results came in F, G and H. Its own formal shoes are F, which its product data calls Standard Fit. H (Wide Fit) appeared only on DB Shoes and Jomos styles, which include casual lace-ups and sneakers, so we cannot say a formal shoe at 16 comes in H; the Jomos Ergo Com is listed as a wide formal shoe, but we did not record its fitting letter. Poyter makes shoes in regular or wide, and its chart gives a ball girth of 286 mm for standard (D) and 295 mm for wide (EE) at 16.
