Next, Loake, Clarks and Skechers all stop at 13, so the choice comes down to Walktall, Samuel Windsor, the Jacamo and JD Williams own-brand range and Poyter’s made-to-order shoes, with a few styles at Barker, ECCO and Base London. Fourteen is also Samuel Windsor’s largest size, which makes it the last size at which we found its Oxfords, wholecut and monk shoes.

Walktall’s widths are the fittings used across its formal category, Barker’s the fittings in its whole men’s range, and Jacamo’s and JD Williams’ the fittings in their men’s shoes filters at 14, where every shoe was formal. • DB Wider Fit Shoes: its Formal Shoes category lists 14, but at that size it showed the same casual leather lace-up and touch-strap shoes as at 13, not dress shoes, when we checked.
• Walktall: its formal category also holds casual shoes, Timberland boots and school and office shoes, so check each product in its size 14 results.
• Walktall’s 14.5: the filter showed only Timberland, mostly Heritage and Stormbucks Oxfords plus Stormbucks Chelsea and chukka boots.
• Barker: almost every formal style offers 14, but only a few were available in it.

How to measure your feet for size 14 formal shoes

Jacamo’s and JD Williams’ charts give 314 mm for a UK 14. Poyter’s chart gives 305 mm, but it runs about one size behind most UK charts, so use its own figures if you order there. Walktall’s table and Barker’s size guide give sizes only, with no foot lengths.

1. Stand on a sheet of paper with your heel touching a wall, in the socks you wear with formal shoes.
2. Have someone mark your longest toe, or lean forward and mark it yourself with the pen upright.
3. Measure wall to mark in millimetres for each foot and keep the longer one.
4. Wrap a tape round the ball of your foot to compare with the girth figures in the width section below.

Width fittings at size 14

Jacamo’s and JD Williams’ guides give a foot girth of 285-290 mm for standard, 291-296 mm for wide and 297-302 mm for extra wide at 14, and both shops’ men’s shoes filters at 14, where every shoe was formal, offered all three. Walktall’s formal shoes use F, G and H fittings, which its product data calls Standard Fit, Wider Than Standard and Wide Fit. Samuel Windsor’s closed lace-ups are G-Fit and its slip-ons F-Fit. Poyter’s chart gives a ball girth of 277 mm for standard (D) and 286 mm for wide (EE) at 14. Barker’s fitting filter runs from E to H across its range, but we did not check which fittings were available at 14. Base London’s shoes have no width options.

Every chart in the table puts a UK 14 at US 15, except ECCO, which gives 15-15.5 for its EU 49, but the EU size runs from 48 at Barker and Poyter to 49.5 at Jacamo and JD Williams. If a shoe is sold only in EU sizes, go by foot length.

No. Fourteen is its largest size, and it has no 13.5 or 14.5. At 14 it listed Oxfords, a wholecut, brogues, monk shoes and penny loafers when we checked.
