Ten is where boots stop being a high street purchase. Of the 22 shops we found at 9, only 12 go on, and several of those are thin. At Marks and Spencer the 10s are a few unisex boots, Dr. Martens’ own are unisex, and at Next and Debenhams we could see only a filter. So the real choice is smaller than the table suggests: Long Tall Sally, Crispins Shoes, ASOS DESIGN, After 8 Shoes, Otto and Ivy, and fewer styles at Yours and Evans. It is also the last size for E and EEE fittings. If you need one of those and you take a 10, you are at the end of the range, so it pays to look at the product page rather than the category. Only a few Wide or W styles at ASOS and Otto and Ivy go further.

Long Tall Sally, Yours, Evans, Next, Debenhams and DuoBoots would not open for us, so their details come from their own pages as shown in search results. After 8 Shoes and Otto and Ivy label boots in EU sizes, so their UK 10 is our reading. We have left Very out at 10: its size filter showed items not available in that size, and it refused further reads. Delivery and returns terms were read on 30 October. Dr. Martens is the main unisex source. Its women’s sizes end at 9, and its 10s are unisex styles shown under women’s boots, at its own site, at Marks and Spencer and at ASOS. Marks and Spencer’s list is only those and Hunter Downpour wellies, and ASOS mixes in Hunter unisex wellingtons, so look at what each item is before you decide the list is long. Long Tall Sally, Yours, Evans, ASOS DESIGN, After 8 Shoes and Otto and Ivy are women’s ranges, so start with those if you want a women’s boot.

Boot ranges that stop at 9

• Simply Be and JD Williams: filters run to 9, as shown in search results, so Super Curvy knee-highs end there.
• DB Wider Fit Shoes and Cosyfeet: their women’s boots end at 9, so the 6E and 6E-8E fittings do too.
• Hotter, Pavers and Dune London: 9 is their top size, as shown in search results.
• Clarks: only men’s items at 10 and above.
• Shoe Zone: at 10 its women’s filter shows only the Cotswold Venture Unisex Black Zip Up Snow Boot, and no women’s boot.

Wide calves at size 10

Calf choice falls away at 10. DuoBoots, with its eight calf sizes, stops here, and we could not confirm which styles reach 10. Yours’ knee-high range lists 10, and its chart gives calf figures of 430 mm for E and 474 mm for EEE. Evans lists knee-highs in 10E. Simply Be’s and JD Williams’ Curvy and Super Curvy calves are gone.

How to measure your feet for size 10 boots

Long Tall Sally and Yours Clothing give 279 mm for a women’s UK 10, and Dr. Martens 29 cm. Marks and Spencer’s and Clarks’ women’s charts stop at 9, so neither helps here, and DuoBoots’ largest size is shorter, at up to 270 mm.

1. Stand with your heel to a wall on a sheet of paper, in the socks you will wear with the boots.
2. Mark the end of your longest toe with the pen upright.
3. Measure to the mark in millimetres on both feet, and compare the longer one with the chart of the shop you are buying from.

Width fittings at size 10

Yours Clothing’s chart gives a joint girth of 264 mm for E and 276 mm for EEE, with instep figures of 260 mm and 266 mm. Long Tall Sally’s single figure is 258 mm, and Dr. Martens gives a foot width of 9.9 cm, with no width options. Above 10, Long Tall Sally’s boots are Standard Fit only, and Yours’ and Evans’ own wide boots end, so 10 is the last size for these fittings.
