Large Wellies for Women: UK Size 8 to 13

Quick answer: at UK 8 and 9 you can choose from 12 to 14 shops, with women’s wellies from Hunter, Le Chameau, Muck Boot and others, and wide calf ranges at Le Chameau and JD Williams. Women’s styles stop at 9 almost everywhere. From 10 to 12 most wellies are unisex, such as Hunter’s Downpour, Muck Boot’s Arctic Sport Tall and Dunlop’s work wellingtons, and the one clear exception is Screwfix’s Cotswold Windsor Tall. At 13 we found three shops, mostly unisex.

Women’s wellies run out sooner than women’s boots. Up to 9 there is a real choice, in tall, mid-calf, ankle and Chelsea styles. Joules stops at 8, as do Marks and Spencer’s own wellies and Dunlop’s women’s Sport. At 9 Le Chameau, Pavers and JD Williams end, along with Hunter’s women’s size tables and Muck Boot’s women-labelled styles. Above that the women’s label largely disappears. Shops keep showing wellies on their women’s pages, but the wellies are unisex or adult. By 13 there are three shops left, and Hunter’s own listings at that size were all sold out. This guide says which is which at every size. Work wellingtons are included, and Dunlop’s safety wellington is named as one.

We checked each shop’s own website on 31 October 2026. Marks and Spencer’s filters, Shoe Zone’s pages, Hunter’s filters and product pages, Muck Boot’s and Le Chameau’s collections, and Dunlop’s store data were read directly. Screwfix and Next were read in a browser at 10 and above, and Next refused further reads part way through. At 8 and 9, Screwfix, Next, GO Outdoors, JD Williams, Pavers, Aigle, Joules and Decathlon were read through search results, so their details come from their own pages as shown there. Delivery and returns terms were read on 30 October. We did not check prices, and availability changes daily.

The largest size is the biggest welly size we could confirm at each shop. A filter may go further, but sold-out sizes and sizes we could not read do not count here. Aigle’s Parcours 2 runs on past 9, but we did not confirm its sizes above that. “Not checked” means we did not record that detail. • Size 8: 14 shops, the widest choice, and the last size for Joules and Marks and Spencer’s own wellies.
• Size 9: 12 shops, and the last size for nearly all women’s styles and for wide calf ranges.

Buying big wellies: what we learned

Read the label: women’s, unisex or adult

Muck Boot’s Womens filter runs to 14, but its women-labelled styles stop at 9 and everything above is unisex. Hunter’s women’s filter runs to 15 while its women’s tables stop at 9. Shoe Zone calls its larger wellies Adults or Unisex, and Dunlop’s Womens collection holds many unisex work wellingtons. On these sites a women’s page tells you where a welly is shown, not who it was made for. An item labelled men’s never counts here, and we left out Muck Boots on Next’s women’s filter because the Derwent II’s page data says men.

The women’s label that goes furthest

The Cotswold Windsor Tall at Screwfix is named Womens up to 12, in black and green. Screwfix’s women’s footwear pages at 10, 11 and 12 show nothing else, and its page at 13 shows no products. It is the only welly above 9 that we can call women’s without a caveat.

Wide and narrow calves

Calf options belong to the lower sizes. Le Chameau has narrow-calf and wide-calf collections, all ending at 9, and the Chasseur in several calf sizes. JD Williams’ category covers regular and wide calf, as shown in search results, with filters running to 9. Joules’ Molly, to 8, is said to suit wider calves, and Hunter’s Refined is a Slim fit. As shown in search results, Hunter’s Original Tall table gives a maximum calf of 39.35 at UK 8, which reads as centimetres. Above 9 we found no wide calf range, and we did not read a calf figure for any welly there.

Filters that mislead

Hunter’s filter shows 13, but every listing behind it was sold out. Its list at 11 mixes wellingtons with cowboy boots, walking shoes and snow boots. Decathlon’s Solognac Reinforced Wellies jump from 8.5 to 9.5, so a filter at 9 has nothing whole to show. Marks and Spencer’s Hunter wellies at 10 to 12 appear in its boots filter among other footwear. Add a style filter, or read each title.

Half sizes are rare

Muck Boot has whole sizes only, Hunter’s one half size is 6.5, and Dunlop’s are 6.5 and 10.5 on some styles. Beyond those we found Decathlon’s Solognac at 8.5 and 9.5, as shown in search results, and Next’s Toggi Barnesdale at 10.5, running low.

EU numbers differ

A UK 9 is EU 43 at Marks and Spencer, Shoe Zone, JD Williams and Next, but EU 42 on Pavers’ grid and the Cotswold guide at GO Outdoors. A UK 10 is EU 44 on Next’s Toggi and EU 44.5 at Shoe Zone. Aigle uses French sizes, with FR 42 for UK 8 and FR 43 for UK 9. A UK 13 is EU 48 at Dunlop and on Next’s labels. Go by the UK size and each shop’s own chart.

Work wellingtons

Dunlop’s list is mostly work and field wellingtons, and the Purofort+ Full Safety is a safety wellington that reaches 13. Screwfix’s Windsor Tall, for one, is listed as non-safety.

Returns differ a lot

Marks and Spencer’s returns are free within 28 days (14 for sale items), though orders under £10 or all-sale orders collected in store usually cannot be posted back, and JD Williams’ within 28 days through its own options. Screwfix’s are free within 30 days, as shown in search results, with some items excluded. Shoe Zone takes unworn wellies back for 12 months, free to a store or £2.50 by post. Hunter leaves the postage to you, Muck Boot charges £4.99, and we could not confirm Dunlop’s cost.

Frequently asked questions

What is the largest women's welly size I can buy in the UK?

We found 13. Dunlop and Muck Boot list unisex wellies there, and Next lists the unisex Toggi Barnesdale and a Hunter Balmoral Adjustable, running low. Filters go on to 14 and 15, but we did not read which styles those sizes hold.

Are Hunter wellies above size 9 women's?

Mostly not. Its women's tables stop at 9, and its styles at 10 and above are mostly unisex, shown on its women's page. At 13 every listing was sold out when we checked.

Which wellies are labelled women's above size 9?

The Cotswold Windsor Tall at Screwfix, to 12. Next's page data says women for its Hunter Balmoral Adjustable, but we did not read whether it is unisex.

Where can I buy wide calf wellies in a large size?

Up to 9, Le Chameau has a wide-calf collection, and JD Williams has wide calf wellies, as shown in search results. Joules' Molly, to 8, is said to suit wider calves. We found no wide calf range above 9.

Does Long Tall Sally list wellies?

We found none on its UK site, as shown in search results.

Do Muck Boots come in half sizes?

No. It lists whole sizes only, and its guide says "Most people who wear half sizes choose to size up".
