At 11 the list of shops looks longer than the choice really is. Yours, Evans and most of Next’s list are the same Long Tall Sally boots, and the Dr. Martens at Next, ASOS and Marks and Spencer are the same unisex styles as on Dr. Martens’ own site. Take those out and five ranges remain. Long Tall Sally is the place for knee-highs. ASOS DESIGN reaches its limit here, with the Rafe and Charlene both topping out at 11. Crispins Shoes, After 8 Shoes and Otto and Ivy are specialists in large sizes, and After 8 ends at this size. Wide fittings have all but gone.

Knee-highs come almost entirely from Long Tall Sally, through its own site, Next, Yours and Evans. Marks and Spencer’s knee-highs stop at 9, and its 11s are flat or low heeled.

Long Tall Sally’s chart gives 288 mm for a women’s UK 11, against 279 mm for a 10, and Dr. Martens gives 30 cm. Yours’ chart stops at 10, so for the Long Tall Sally boots at Yours, Evans or Next, use Long Tall Sally’s chart.

1. Stand on paper with your heel touching a wall, wearing the socks you would wear with the boots.
2. Mark your longest toe, pen upright.
3. Measure to the mark in millimetres on both feet, and compare the longer one with 288 mm.

Wide boots almost disappear at 11. Long Tall Sally’s own boots are Standard Fit, and its chart gives a joint girth of 264 mm.
